oxalic acid

Safety

Attach to 12 V car battery for exactly 2 min 30 seconds.

The crucible of the Varrox® holds up to 2 grams of Oxalic Acid.

The typical treatment for 1 brood chamber colonies is 1 gram and for 2 brood chamber colonies is 2 grams. However, new research is suggesting that 3.5 - 4 grams of Oxalic Acid may be required for sufficient control of Varroa Mites. Be sure to check with your local regulations.

Oxalic acid vapours cause irritation of eyes and the respiratory system. Do not use indoors. Always wear protective clothing, Eye glasses and a breathing mask rated for use with organic acids. Always treat your hives with the wind in your back.

Application

  • Add the required amount of oxalic acid dihydrate to the pan. (we always recommend using the registered oxalic acid as it will not contain excipients that will leave behind unwanted residues)

  • Place VARROX® through the hive entrance underneath the frames at the centre of the bee cluster.

  • Close hive opening with sponge strips or cloth.

  • Attach to 12 V car battery for exactly 2 min 30 sec.

  • Disconnect and remove VARROX® after 1 minute.

  • Dip the still hot pan into a bucket of cold water to cool it down to starting temperature.

  • Seal hive entrance fully for 10 minutes.

  • Best results are achieved on brood-less colonies at outside temperatures above 8°C.
